Foster families in the community are an important resource used by the Santa Cruz County Animal Services to provide for animals whose needs can not adequately be met in confinement within the animal shelters. These animals might include nursing mothers with their litters, very young orphaned animals, or animals with unique medical needs.

An important part of the Friends mission is to provide financial support for families who take on this important fostering role.
