Spay/Neuter Program


This program assists qualifying low-income Santa Cruz County residents in spaying or neutering their pets at either the Santa Cruz Animal Shelter or through a local participating veterinarian.  As of August 2012, we have funded the spaying or neutering of over 6,000 animals.  This service helps families take care of their pets. For every animal that gets spayed or neutered it helps our community by decreasing the number of unwanted litters.

FOSCCA’s Spay/Neuter program assists Santa Cruz County animal rescue groups with the cost of spaying and neutering the animals in their programs.  These groups include:

For a $40 contribution, you can donate a FREE spay/neuter voucher in your name or in the name of a friend, family member or pet. This voucher will enable a deserving low-income recipient to spay a dog, cat or rabbit at no charge.

Do you qualify for a certificate? These certificates can be used at any of our participating veterinarians in Santa Cruz County.

To obtain your LOW COST CERTIFICATE, please bring the following materials to either Santa Cruz or Watsonville:

1. PROOF OF SANTA CRUZ COUNTY RESIDENCE (Driver’s license or government-issued photo ID)
2. PROOF OF INCOME at the following levels*

1 person home — Maximum of $25,000 yearly2 person home — Maximum of $30,000 yearly
3 person home — Maximum of $35,000 yearly
4 person home — Maximum of $40,000 yearly
*Income levels are adjusted  to reflect availability of funds.

Examples of acceptable proof of income documents include the following: pay stub, proof of public assistance, unemployment check or W2 form.
